Experience. Empathy. Integrity.
Joe Meany has what is needed to become our next Albany County Court Judge.
Meet Joe Meany: Albany County Democratic Committee Endorsed Candidate for County Court Judge.
Joe has served on every side of the judicial system -- serving as a public defender, a prosecutor, and a law clerk for Judge William Little and Judge Sherri Brooks.
Joe's roots are in Albany County. Joe was born in Albany and lives in Delmar with his partner and her twin sons, who are seniors in high school.
Joe went to PS #16, Hackett Middle School, and Albany High School. After college, Joe worked for Albany County as a caseworker with the Department of Children, Youth and Families. Joe's experiences working with abused and neglected children and their families led him to Albany Law School.
Joe graduated from Albany Law School in 2006 and have been a trial lawyer ever since.
Joe's Experience Sets Him Apart

Public Defender
As a public defender for 15 years, Joe tried numerous cases in Albany County Court, including four murder cases. Joe won acquittals but also lost cases and has seen the effect incarceration has on a family. Joe fought for clients who needed help and watched as they reclaimed their lives and their place in our community.

Law Clerk for Two Judges
Prosecutor
Since 2024, Joe has served as District Attorney Kindlon's second in command. Joe secured justice for child victims of predatory sexual abuse. Joe also coordinates complicated investigations that are helping restore the public’s trust in the criminal justice system. Joe works with the the Restorative Justice Bureau, created by DA Kindlon, to ensure those who deserve a second chance get one, and that we keep a focus on rehabilitation and not just punishment. Joe also helps supervise the conviction integrity initiative, investigating individuals who may have been wrongfully incarcerated or who deserve some relief in their sentences.
Joe worked behind the scenes as law clerk to both Judge Sherri Brooks-Morton in Albany County Family Court and Judge Will Little in Albany County Court.
Joe wrote decisions and observed what it takes to preside with fairness and impartiality. Joe also conducted settlement conferences and worked with the parties to craft resolutions in tough cases.
